Default Bold 9000 or Curve 8900?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

i was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to give me some advice? My contracts up and i have to option to upgrade to either of the two blackberry's mentioned. Having done a little research into both (and by research i mean watching mobileburn.com review's on youtube) and i think i'm veering toward the bold but was wondering what the opinion of the people who actually use them is so here i am.

On a seperate note, said youtube review complained that the bolds browser and was wondering your thoughts on this as the reason i'm geting rid of my n95 is because the browser is rubbish.

Anyway, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ally

You will find passionate fans of both devices here. A suggestion- take a few minutes to further your research by reading the model-specfic sections for both here at BBF-they contain a lot of good feedback both positive and negative from actual users.

Had the Bold since December after a year with the 2nd gen curve. It's better but I don't feel it is all what it was hyped up to be (as suggested in my avatar). 3G is still like a 56k modem (I was told it was like slow cable) so although the web browsing is faster than EDGE, it's still painfully slow, not worth it considering I have a laptop and I am on the net at work all day. Still glitchy and you can't have extra apps open or you have to pull the battery in order to reset it. Could be because of all teh apps I have on it (which I never use) Also with WIFI on, it sucks the battery dry before the day is over. I do like the big screen and I can type a little more accurately on this keyboard.

So unless you REALLY need to browse the web on your handheld, get the Bold. But if you have lots of internet access throughout the day and evening, save your money and get the Curve. IT's still good for email, messaging and SMS.

No.
The Blackberry browser in general (i.e it doesnt change from model to model) is poor compared to other phones.
A soon (we hope) to be released OS (OS 5) is supposed to improve the browser alot.

Think i'll go for the bold then as its that little bigger and i think it look sbetter

Thanks folks

Yes. We know it will include "tabbed browsing" which is a definate improvement, and we expect the general performace to be better.

I went for the Bold over the 8900 as I too thought it looked better.

Enjoy!

its great.
My BB is probably one of the most underused BB's here.
As I rarely call/get calls, rarely text/get texts, and dont use alot of apps.

but I love the keyboard!

I have been using a Bold for the last eight months and liking it a lot, though the BB browser is quite lousy (my Edge based browser on the Treo 650 was way better).

What I've been using as my primary browser on the Bold is Opera Mini. Find it to be very fast and much more useful.

Surprised at the battery drain complaints. I find my battery lasts two full days with moderate use and a wifi connection.

Actually Spec-wise the 8900 is better than the bold.
It has 256MB app memory vs 128MB
It has 3.2MP camera vs 2.0MP

It just doesnt have 3G.

And the screen on the 8900 is higher res than the Bold (480x360 vs 480x320).

I went into the o2 shop in Belfast today and had a go on both of them. I decided to go for the bold. couldn't convince o2 to let me upgrade early though (a whole 15 days!!! a curse on them).

Anyway, just wanna say thanks for all the advice you folk have given me. What with phone contracts being 18 months long now its good to get some feedback from people who actually use the kit.

so,

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Another vote for Opera Mini especially if you don't find the BB browser to your liking. On the socket setting, it works really well when you have to jump from site to site to site.

Thanks Rambo47

Was wondering what you guys would think is a fair price for a 6 month old second hand bold in mint condition? A guy in work is selling his as he got a company one and i'm thinking about offering 100 for it? good price, unfair on him or unfair on me?

cheers
