Default How to tell if it's unlocked?

I'm getting a pearl from a Craigslist ad, he said it'll be unlocked from Rogers. I use Rogers on my bold. When I meet him, how do I know if it actually is unlocked when my SIM card is Rogers already?

It does matter in this case because it's for a friend on a network in another country. Thanks for the link, it's exactly what I needed to know...
