Question Sync Blackberry with GAL

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've been asked by our client to synchronize contacts that are in a custom built CMS with their blackberry devices.

They are running on "Blackberry Professional Software".

My hope was that I could simply do an Export from our CMS to their Exchange 2003 Server in a custom GAL, and then sync their blackberries to this list.

This doesn't seem to be possible. From what I've been able to find out, they can only sync with their local Outlook contacts, and not with the GAL in any way.

I've discovered the "Lookup" feature on the device, but this isn't what they want, they want these contacts on their phone.

Am I correct in saying that they will either:

* Need to upgrade to "Blackberry Enterprise Server" to enable syncing with GAL lists
or
* Find a way of getting the contacts into each users Outlook contacts, either by syncing them with the GAL or doing a direct import to each users outlook from our CMS system.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris Coppin

Oh, also discovered "Blackberry Unite" which seems to fill the apparent hole of the BPS product, and based on descriptions would be exactly what we need, but alas it's now discontinued, so that doesn't appear to be an option either.

You need BES to take advantage of GAL. As you surmised, BIS is local sync only for contacts.
