Im getting the Curve 8900, and wondering how the durability is? I dont treat my phones poorly, but it will be in my pocket all day with keys and pens/pencils and stuff like that. Is it a durable phone, or will it break? I'm also going to buy some sort of case (hopefully hard case) for it when i get it, but if it cant deal with the typical abuse of days in a pocket i may go with something else.

I don't think the phone's durability is any poorer than other phones. But why do you have pencils and pens in your pocket -- seems like a lot of stuff haha.

But I'd look into getting a screen protector as well. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. Lots of generics out there for cheap and do a fine job.

im a college student...just carrying stuff to and from class...haha thats really the only reason...any idea why you cant get the hard cases anymore....my buddy has one for his older blackberry, and i figure that woulda worked, but i cant find one anywhere

I had an 8700 for over four years and the 8900 now. Dropped them both numerous times. Sometimes straight to concrete. They will nick, but never stopped working. A cellphone sales rep told me one time, that when they go to BB training one of the first things the trainer does is throw the phone against the wall. Not sure if that is true, but based on my experience, I would not be afraid to do it with any of my BB's.

If you're carrying it in your pocket then make sure there's nothing else in that pocket.

I've had great luck with mine..

I tend to treat my 'Berrys pretty poorly. I'm just rough on them, and my expected lifespan for one is about 6-8 months. I just hit 7 months on the 8900, and it's still kicking.

I even toss it to the ground from 8 feet up in the air in front of iPhone users to show them that their phones suck. No iPhone user would ever be able to get away with that kind of phone abuse.

RIM makes a quality product here...

I currently own a tour, but a few coworkers have the 8900. The build quality seems pretty good to me. The tour seems built a wee bit stronger than the 8900. Nothing beats the 8700 series. I had it for two years during which I might have dropped it several dozen times. It still has all the edges intact!
