Default anyone have this new symbol?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB 7250 and have noticed a symbol, looks like a snowflake, under the coverage bars. Have no idea what it is.

Any ideas?

I thought only the Nextel iden-based devices (7520) have GPS, not the 7250.

Verizon uses the "GPS" functionality for emegencies only (e911), look under options->location based services and you can set it to "location on" or "e911 only".

Default What can you do with GPS

This is the first time I have seen this symbol appear. If you set it for location on, what does that do for you?

The snowflake is the GPS locate. You can set it for 911 only. You want this. If you dial 911 then emergency services can locate you using that GPS signal. In my community we can and have locate people within 100 feet. It is a great feature.

Wirelessly posted (7250/4.0.0.204: BlackBerry7250/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

"Location On" allows for both passive and active mode locating. Locate requests can be sent from the handset for use in mapping applications or across the network for tracking applications.

For example: GoTrax is an application offered by Bell Mobility which provides a Web based application through which a handset may be located using either GPS or Cell Tower locates.
(See www.businessonthego.ca/gotrax for details)
"Locate Off" leaves it so that only 911 operators are able to locate your handset.
