Default Messages arriving "read" before being opened?

I'm not sure which section this post would belong in. Sorry, please move it if necessary.

I am having a unique issue with several Blackberry's at work. They are all on the AT&T network, but are all different model Blackberry's.

What is happening is when an employee gets an e-mail sent to their Outlook inbox on their workstation, it shows up as already being read before they have opened it. When the e-mail is sent to their phone, it is un-read.

I have turned Wireless Reconciliation feature on the phone OFF, but this still happens. We would like for both the workstation and the phone to receive the e-mails as UN-READ.

Does anyone have any insight on this problem? We are using the att.blackberry.com website to re-send service books for each individual account but so far that has not fixed the issue.

Bump? Anyone have any ideas?

Ongoing issue. Seeing e-mails populate in the inbox already marked read/opened when they haven't been clicked on yet. Very odd.

I am assuming that you are on BIS and not on BES. Please confirm or deny.

What happens if you disable the BlackBerries for a period of time? Does email on Outlook then come in with an unread status?

What is the polling cycle for Outlook to check mail on the (presumably) POP servers?

I am guessing that your POP servers recognize that the BB has fetched the mail and is flagging it as read, and that this is coupled with a lengthy polling cycle in Outlook such that the BB always (or almost always) fetches the mail before Outlook has grabbed it.

Sorry for the late response, been very busy.

I believe we are on a BES. When the phones were shut off, e-mails would show up as un-read.

The mail was not being sent using a POP server, but I think I figured it out.

We also have Outlook Web Access for these users. Using the att.blackberry.com website we deleted their e-mail account and started over. Going through the options to re-add the e-mail addresses, we chose the Outlook Web Access option instead of just entering in our mail server information the regular way.

Now everything seems to be working fine. The OWA option seems to send the mail through without opening it or changing the status.

Sounds like somewhere along the line there was a rule in effect, maybe in MS Outlook on the users' desktop computers, that said to mark mail as read. Glad you got it sorted.
