Odd email arrived on my BB BEFORE setting up any email services
After doing a full wipe on my BlackBerry 8900 I noticed upon reboot that I had a new email. Received using "Unknown." The sender was showing so I can email that person, though I am not sure I want to, due to the nature of the message...it might not be a good idea. The trouble is that I received this message on my phone immediately after a full wipe, but before I set up BES and BIS email on the phone. That shouldn't be possible. This is definitely an email, not PIN, I'm, SMS, or anything else. What might have enabled this to occur?
Are you the original owner of this device?
Sounds like it has a BIS account already linked to it. Doing a device wipe won't get rid of that.
That probably would have been my first question as well. I am the original owner of the device. That is why I really am at a loss to explain this. I always like to wipe the device before setup even when brand new...I just feel better that way.
Well, look in Options > Advanced Options > Service Book
and see if there's any CMIME service books for the email address that is still linked to the device.
If there is, then someone set up a BIS account and used your PIN and IMEI to do it.
