Default Blackberry 8830 on BIS - Exchange 2007 OWA Email

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry 8830 - I've been using it for personal and business use for two years (I own it, not my work). To get my work email, I would connect through BIS - OWA on Exchange 2003. Yesterday, my company upgraded to Exchange 2007 and no matter what I do, I cannot get my emails anymore. I've been searching online all day long and this seems to be a limitation with Blackberry and Exchange 2007 due to an Active Sync liensing issue between MS and BB...in any event, I know this sounds crazy, but I'm devestated...no not really, but pretty close. I'm reading that if I buy a Windows phone, that my email will work again. I also read that AstraSync would solve my issues....I downloaded the free trial and cannot even get that to connect. I can't work directly with my IT support bc they frown on us using personally owned PDA devices. I don't know if this is just a limitation of Blackberry devices or if they blocked something at work, across the board. Any ideas, tips you can give would be greatly appreciated. There's gotta be other people out there that have run into this lately. If I have to switch to a Windows device, what would you recommend. Thanks.

It's not a limitation of the BlackBerry.
BIS with OWA 2007 is supported, but your Exchange administrator must configure OWA in a specific way to allow BIS access. It has nothing to do with ActiveSync.

Most likely, they are deliberately blocking it from being used. This is not uncommon.

Penguin - Thanks for your reply. If they are blocking me from accessing it, is it typically blocked across all platforms, including Windows devicces? Thanks.

I can't really answer that accurately because I don't know anything about your environment.

If they are allowing public access to ActiveSync services, then you should be able to use any mobile device which supports ActiveSync. BlackBerry doesn't use ActiveSync.
My recommendation would be the iPhone.

Yes Penguin. You are right on the money. What i learned is that it is not intentional but if the IT policy is changed it will effect other items
