Default Verizon Wireless advising NOT to upgrade to OS 5... Yet...

Please Login to Remove!

I called VZW before doing the upgrade and was told that there were some issues and they are (if asked) advising people NOT to do the OS 5 upgrade. they say that BBry is working on the issue and it's mostly BES issues, though some have lost Icons and contacts (not wireless sync'd) as well.

Anyone else heard of this? I was told to check back next week to see if Blackberry has fixed the icon and BES issues.

BTW - I have a new Tour running 4.7 and was looking for an outbound volume (through bluetooth) fix. Heard rumors that OS5 would address this, now I'm more concerned...

The upgrades on all of our Storms went fine, and after upgrading to OS 5 they are more stable.
Verizon has the software for download, so I doubt they are advising people not to download it.

So here's what I am getting from Verizon now:
1) The upgrade is NOT available for the Tour
2) They don't know if it WILL be availble at all for the Tour (idiot rep told me that most of the changes are for the Storm and Tour is not included)
3) Their website is offering the update to 4.5, which is behind the 4.7 I got with my new phone two weeks ago!

Anyone know more about what's going on? Or is Verizon just doing their "playing dumb" thing again....

Default Storm upgrade lost contacts

Did the upgrade today for my Storm. It all looked good, moved faster. EXCEPT all my contacts are now missing and I had many I need or want. Any way to retreive these? I am not a phone or PC genius so ideas need to be spelled out please. Thanks

You can email me @ipnfla073@aol.com

1) The upgrade is NOT available for the Tour

10/26, there was an update released (5.0.0.328) for the Storm (9530). VZW never announced an update for the Tour to be released at this time.

2) They don't know if it WILL be availble at all for the Tour (idiot rep told me that most of the changes are for the Storm and Tour is not included)

At some point, I am sure OS5 will be available for the Tour. The push is on to move all the newer handhelds to OS5 but VZW is slow in approving OS upgrades for release.

3) Their website is offering the update to 4.5, which is behind the 4.7 I got with my new phone two weeks ago!

No they are not. They are telling you the truth.

Welcome to the Forums.

It is really not proper to "hijack" another thread for an unrelated question.

How did you do the update? If you did it via Desktop Manager, the device should have been backed up. You will need to restore the contacts from this backup using DM. You should always be in the habit of performing backups before making changes to the handheld. Start DM, Backup and Restore and then select the back up file. By default, this file is usually in your My Documents folder and will be date.jpd.

Good luck.

Is there a reason why they wouldn't offer OS5 for the Tour?

I have the same question... since I seem to remember a post earlier about OS 5 going to the Tour and other devices (all but the oldest) around the same time as the Storm2 (i.e. now).

The Tour will be updated. The only question is when.

My guess would be that Verizon doesn't want to deal with the support headache of releasing the Storm 2, the Storm 1 OS upgrade and the Tour concurrently. My bet would be that we won't see a Tour update until the dust settles from the Storm.

Tick tick tick... waiting for the dust to settle. Meanwhile, my bluetooth headset is low volume and I'm waititng for the fix to boost it or I need to get a new headset.

It will happen and everyone needs to remember that when you purchase something that is "new", there will be bugs to be worked out. All of us Storm 1 owners are proof of that!
