Default Windows 7, MS Outlook and Desktop Manager Oddity

Please Login to Remove!

Over the past weekend, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 (from XP). Under XP, I had MS Outlook loaded and used it as my PIM, but did not use it for email - that was done with Eudora.

When I completed the upgrade, install MS Office, Eudora and Desktop Manager, everything appeared to be the same as before... until I tried to sync my Bold with Outlook. Since Eudora was my mail client, the sync puked and said that it could not complete because Outlook (2007) was NOT my default email client. When I changed Outlook to be my default email client, I was able to sync fine... but access to my email was out-of-whack.

Has anyone else encountered this issue where Desktop Manager refuses to sync their BlackBerry with MS Outlook when Outlook was not the default email client? Weird that it worked fine under Windows XP, but not under Windows 7.

@fonejunkie

Here is a shot in the dark. Have you tried running DM in XP compatibility mode?

Just read something about this here:

Default DM 5.0, Windows 7, Outlook 2007

Just upgraded to Windows 7. Every sync, DM stops working at final stage of calendar sync. Same thing on two different computers. Reinstalled DM. Didn't help. Need help.

There is no "error code", is just simply says that MS Outlook is not the default email client... and (assuming) that because I am syncing with MS Outlook that it somehow sees it as a problem now.

Unfortunately, I am running Win7 Home Premium which does not include the XP Compatibility mode.

My solution was to change my email client to Outlook. I tried that several years ago and hated it, but either I am not as picky now, or the 2007 version is better, because I am actually starting to like Outlook as an email client.

Not the same thing.
Right clicking the icon of the program you want to run, going to properties, compatiblity, checking the "run this in compatiblity for" and selecting from the drop down box, still works.

The XP Compatiblity Mode, available on professional or ultimate windows 7, is different. It literally runs that program in XP, not win 7.
