Default How can I get a Blackberry to work in Tokyo

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

I have a user who has a 8800 and he just came back from Tokyo and said that while he was there he could not get any mails on his BB and now wants to avoid this in the future.

He is registered with out local carrier here in Dubai called Etisalat, can you please let me know which BB works in Tokyo as the only thing I know as of now is that GSM will not work in Tokyo but 3G will..

Any help guys?

Please do a search. Only a few non Japanese BBs will work on the Japanese networks and then only in a few places. Japan uses a different frequency than the rest of the world.

Some newer devices will work somewhat, but I am not sure which. A search should reveal that.

It also depends on where the person is trying to use it. If the person is traveling there a lot, it might be best to get a BB from a Japanese carrier.

I know the BlackBerry Tour (at least from Sprint) is one that will work in Japan. Not sure about other models.
No longer a BES Admin, but it was fun while it lasted!
