| I have posted on this forum several times our local (Central FL) problems with the Nextel service. I hav esent several emails to Sprintel and the standard response is we are upgrading in your area. It is unfortunate that we are so embedded with them now.

| I am in the MD area and I just recently came back to Nextel BB fom the Verizon Treo. I was a Nextel customer a year or so ago. It was pretty bad then and I hear it is still bad. To be honest and I am probably shooting myself in the foot here, is I am not having significant issues with the 7520 yet. We have certain trouble areas though.
I have an in side source in NexSprint or whatever and they are goin to contiune to offer the diverse services and not merge them together. It isn't even a topic right now. The are trying at this point to increase their service and work on better combined services while still staying seperate in a sense.

| I have a nextel phone and a verizon BB. Both for work. If it was not for the direct connect the nextel could go in the trash. If I am away from major city areas the nextel simply does not work. I travel a bit and usually just leave the nextel at home. The verizon works almost every including my recent trip to BFE Kansas where the nextel was dead. When direct connect goes away the so does all of the nextels. BTW we are a 15,000 + contract. | | Offline

| I have been a Nextel customer for along time now, and all I can say is my service is very reliable. The only thing I have to say though is the customer service has gone down the toilet, but no companies CS is any good. | | Offline

| We've got ~ 600 Nextel devices, between straight up mobiles & BB's and have had good luck with Nextel. Due to the nature of our business, many of our users work in areas so remote that there are few to no roads, and we've had very few complaints. And, the BB's are outperforming the standard mobiles as far as call quality goes. | | Offline

| I don't know about you but here in Indiana you go to BFE and Verizon is the one that is up the creek, Cingular it just don't work all the time in the city, and T-mobile who are they, they don't even have any coverage here that is worth talking about. Sprint/Nextel seems to be the one that works the best. I travel to all the small towns and I have signal compared to my friends who have Verizon who are always staticy on my end for them and have to borrow my BB to check on there kids. I just think it is quite funny that carriers can be so different depending on the state you live in. | | Offline

| Funny how we grow attached to a service provider when it comes to phones. Good thing Consumer Reports does their thing so we can make informed decisions. Verizon ranked markedly above other providers in the US, again. | | Offline

Yes they have been ranked higher, it isn't their billing, but I can tell you here in Indiana that if you go to BFE you might as well forget that and the sound quality on their phones are not the greatest given the use of my friends cell when I leave mine in the car. I am not saying that Verizon stinks I am just saying it is not my prefrence. I had them and didn't like them, I geuss I don't have 30 to 40 min out of my day to call every month for my bill. Also I like the fact of not having static or hearing the echo of my own voice due to the time delay. Anyway to each their own. | | Offline

| thanks all that have said how good one or another is
I am sure quite a few fire depts are talking about this, nextel use to give great support to us, even at our trade shows.
with some of the new paging systems, we also get a page now but its sent as a sms.
with all of the companys who make some really great programs, why cant a company make a program that we could SMS with? I would buy, and i am sure quite a few others would as well.
Back in the day......nextel was great, i am sorry to say that sprint sucks, or really the dropped calls, plus the lack of support of people at nextel, it has caused the service to go down hill.
really i learn more from logging on to this web page then going into a nextel store or calling them!!!
