Question Can't Transfer Contacts From Outlook/PST

Please Login to Remove!

I previously used a Treo device. Before leaving my old company, I exported all of my contacts to a .pst file. I am not having success now uploading my contacts to my personal BB Curve.

Per other FAQ, I uploaded from the .pst to Outlook. I have my Outlook 2003 linked to a Hotmail account if that matters. (I've never actually accessed Hotmail via Outlook before now and downloaded the Outlook Connector software to synch the Hotmail and Outlook accounts in case that was the problem.)

I have downloaded the Desktop Manager software. But when I try to synch, I get an error message stating "No applications configured for synchronization." I don't know what application to load via the "Application Loader." I've tried using the "Browse" button to select the "Outlook" folder, but there are no ".alx" or ".ali" files in the Outlook folder.

Please help! I just want to get my contacts into the phone without manually entering them. (Which my husband points out I probably could have done by now given the time I've spent trying to figure out how to do this.) I'm sorry if this is explained elsewhere, but I have searched and everything just seems to say "use Device Manager." But I cannot figure out HOW to actually use the Device Manager.
Thanks.

I believe that with Outlook 2003 you need an older version of Desktop Manager, like 4.3. If this is incorrect, somebody please chime in and correct me. When you run DM 4.3 for the first time you should be able to select your version of Outlook for syncing.

DM 3.6.2 through 4.7 supports Outlook 2003, per the BlackBerry.com knowledge base.

Products
BlackBerry® Desktop Software

Environment
BlackBerry® Desktop Software version 3.6 Service Pack 2 (3.6.2) to BlackBerry® Desktop Software version 4.7
Microsoft® Outlook® 2003

Overview
Support for Microsoft Outlook 2003 is only available with BlackBerry Desktop Software version 3.6 Service Pack 2 (3.6.2) to BlackBerry Desktop Software version 4.7. Limited support for Microsoft Outlook 2003 is available with BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 3.6 Service Pack 1 (3.6.1).

Note: The Business Contact Manager feature of Microsoft Outlook 2003, which is a personal information management (PIM) add-on, is not supported by the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Additional Information
Micorsoft Outlook 2003 includes a new feature called Cached Exchange Mode (also referred to as Local Cache Mode). When this feature is enabled, Microsoft Outlook creates a local or duplicate copy of the userxxx8217;s mailbox on the desktop computer. BlackBerry Desktop Software version 3.6.1 does not fully support the new Cached Exchange Mode feature.

Desktop Manager 5.0 works just fine with Outlook 2003 (at least it did today)

It sounds like that outlook is not correctly connected to an email address. I'm not sure that it is even required for what you're attempting. Don't know, never tried it this way. But once you can get into outlook, you need to import that PST, then set up DM, in the Sync Options you will have to run through the wizard to tell it what/when to sync. Then run the sync or reconnect the device while DM is running.
I agree, yes DM 4/5 will function with outlook2003.

wcr3d is correct.
You need to import the .pst file into Outlook.
Then you need to click on the Configure Sync link in Desktop Manager (that is the reason for the error message, you havent set it up).
Set up Outlook to be the client that Desktop Manager syncs with.
Sync, and you are done.

The replies above pretty much address your issue.

Just for clarification -- App Loader is used to load apps from your PC to BB (though, in general, over-the-air installs are recommended as they are easier). It has nothing to do with synchronization.
