| If you didn't backup the blackberry to a pc or laptop, and you haven't sync'd your contacts, etc to Outlook or something like that, then you are out of luck.
Just to be certain of things here, you have the contacts and tasks apps on the blackberry, just they are empty, right?
Also, I when you say update, I assume you mean you did a device software upgrade using desktop manager, correct? If so, a backup was probably done during the process. I can't remember if it is automatic, or if you are asked if you want to do it. If it was done, there will be a .ipd file on your computer somwhere. If you have it, that's a backup file. Use desktop manager to selectively restore the contacts and tasks databases.
