Default International phone SIM cards

Please Login to Remove!

I'll be spending about a month in South Africa and taking the BlackBerry 7290 and a Nokia 3100 phone, both on Cingular. I'll just add on the international unlimited data plan for the BlackBerry for about $20/month. I really don't use the BB as a phone.

The question deals with the Nokia phone. Most of the calling will be from the U.S. to the phone in South Africa. It's unlocked and I want to get a SIM card to avoid the HIGH international roaming charges from Cingular.

I know there are lots of Web sites that sell SIM cards and I really did search this and other sites, but I'm lost. Should I wait until I get there to buy something? Should I buy something before I go? Any recommendations for what to get or where?

Many thanks for your help.

Go there first and then find from your contacts over there which is the company that is best or better and buy their SIM card and you are in biz. online companies only sell it for people are will be there for a very short period of time.

Also Icheck the host country's frequency bands and see if they are supported by your 3100

This is very sound advice, you will find something there fast and much cheaper then roaming or buying it before you leave.

Unlimited BB plan is 49, Unlimited Intl. BB data is 69. Just an additional $20.

Sorry for the confusion. I already have the domestic unlimited data plan for $44.99/month. Changing it to the international unlimited data plan for $64.99/month would only cost me an additional $20/month.

Default Thanks!

I appreciate the prompt and complete responses. I think I have the information I needed. I'll wait until I get to South Africa to buy the SIM card.
