Default SMS Texts Showing Up as # Not Contact Name

Please Login to Remove!

So I searched the web/BB forums for this and still have the same issue.

When SMS texts come in they display the contact # (ex. +1 303 555 1212) versus the actual contact name. When I open the text, I can see who it is from if I hit the menu button, and scroll down it says E-mail/Call contact name.

I did the following already to no avail... Checked speed dial options, listed my country code as correct. Checked Options/SMS Text. Show Names is listed as Yes (on).

What did I miss here? Running a 9700 (v5.0.0.330) on T-Mobile

Yep tried the info in there no luck.

#1, even tried adding the area code with no long.

#2 the 9700 does not have the content protection option for the add book.

Exchange, if you go to Options > Security > Encryption and click Disabled to Enabled, you should see "include contacts".

Do you?

Encryption is set to Disabled.

If I change it to Enabled, the drop down says Include Contacts, which is set to Yes.

Should I change this to apply to No?

Does Encryption have to be on for this?

If it is disabled, then this is not the issue.

Ok, I note above you said you checked your speed dial options, but did you mean your Smart Dialing Options?

Are those SMS you are getting coming from names that are in your Address Book?

Yes, smart dial = speed dial. Also #s are verified as IN the contact address book.

I futher know that because if I go and open the SMS and hit menu, then scroll down it gives me the option to e-mail _____ contact name.

Speed dial and smart dialling are two different things.

What I was referring to in this instance was that by me typing smart dial that equals what jsanders referred to as speed dial.

exchange, look at this for me, those contacts who only show as the number and no name, do you have any dash in the number, like 1-800-000-000?

Try formatting one of those numbers like this, in your contacts: (123)4567890 or 1234567890 (remove any dashes) and have that contact send you a message.

Does it work now?

It seems this dash is causing a problem on 9700 device contacts. Perhaps an OS upgrade soon will fix that bug.

my 9700 had the exact same problem. I spent 30 mins on the line with T-Mobile. They kept telling me to look for the "content protection" option under general settings which is non-existent. Any idea of when this bug will be addressed?

Default Same problem

I have exactly the same problem with my new 9700 but have no dashes in my numbers so canno try removing them
The problem with the name display missing appears to be random, say in about half of the people, and it also fails to appear when I receive a call.
I have checked and the system recognises the sender when the option key is pressed.
