Hello all, brand new here, first post. New to Blackberry, got my first one last week and LOVE it! It's a 8330 with Verizon; unfortunately, I'm not actually in a Verizon coverage area and the extended coverage isn't being reliable enough to receive calls. I'll be canceling the Verizon, and staying with AT&T, and will be getting a 8900 instead in a few days.

My question: is it possible to put the ringtones, wallpapers, and the contacts I put into my 8330 (before it became clear I couldn't stay with Verizon) into the forthcoming 8900? Can I move the files to my PC, keep them there until I get the 8900, and then put them into the 8900?

Will it matter that the ringtones and wallpapers were purchased through the Verizon Media store, if I put them into my new AT&T phone?

Also, if the above is possible, if I transfer or copy the files in the 8330 to my PC, does that then remove the files from the device?

ANY suggestions, advice, and opinions appreciated. Thanks!

You can use Desktop Manager to backup your 8330 and then use that backup to put contacts/calendar/tasks/memos onto your new one.

You can move the wallpapers and other pics to your pc, no problem. I don't know if the Verizon ringtones. They may well be locked to Verizon devices. If you can transfer them to your pc then it's a pretty fair bet that you can indeed use them on your new AT&T BlackBerry.

Copying them to your pc doesn't remove them from the BB, it duplicates them on the pc.

Another question for you, if you don't mind. I see you are a Mac user, and I have a MacBook Pro. I've read some on the Apple boards about problems with the Desktop Manager software not working well on the macs, have you found that that to be true? I also have a PC, which I can use and that's what I thought I would need to use. But if the Mac will work OK, I'd rather use that.

My Mac and BlackBerry are working great together. I did a backup on a pc before messing with the Mac Desktop Manager. I also backed up my Mac's Address Book to MobileMe before proceeding. Good thing too, because the first sync erased my Address Book! Second sync (after restoring from MobileMe) worked like a charm, and no troubles with syncing since then. The other hiccup was when I tried to update my Tour's software via Desktop for Mac. The installation failed part way through and bricked my Tour. Took me HOURS on the pc with JL_Commander, Desktop Manager, and JavaLoader to get it back. And I had the BB backed up on the pc to restore all my data.

Syncing now is a joy. iCal and Address Book sync seamlessly now.

Media files should really be on a media card to keep as much device memory free as possible. Moving them once on a media card is simply a matter of moving the media card from one BB to the other.
