BB to use Wifi instead of BIS Hi, I am new to BB, and I just bought a BB Storm II 9550 recently and is there a way for me to use Wifi as primary internet connection and phone data network as alternative? I've tried to use google map on it but it says no network connection even though I've just downloaded google map using my wifi |
Wirelessly posted Many apps are tied directly to the BIS. |
You can do it, but, as has been noted, many of the apps require a BIS account. That being said, if you put a bit more time into seeking out the apps you want on your device, you can enjoy the BB without a BIS or BES account. Just takes a bit more effort. |
so Daughain can you tell me how to do it perhaps a link somewhere? |
run google maps on the phone data connection. it should work. thne close. then check wi-fi, wait for icon to go white, uncheck mobile network. now open google maps. it should use wi-fi, it does with me. If it doesnt, it might not have permission to use wi-fi options - advnaced- applications highlight applciation menu - edit permissions under connection ALLOW all. then try. |
hi, i've tried what you've just suggested, it doesn't work for me. I've read elsewhere that it's because google apps choose not to use WiFi. thanks for all replies. |
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I have an 8310, which doesn't have WIFI as an option... =( Anyway, using my normal data connection, I have no trouble with Google apps running, get my Gmail updates, GoogleMaps, etc. For IM, I'm using BeeJive which is an 'all-in-one' type of client. Mind you, BBM is on a sealed network, so you can only access it with BIS or BES. I use Jmirc for IRC....Haven't sourced Yahoo apps yet, though. I don't know which (if any) of these apps will work via WIFI, but you can always try. Trying to track down apps that will do what you want, is nothing more than making close, personal friends with your favorite search engine. |
