Default multiple carriers...one phone

Please Login to Remove!

Simple question. If I have a BB, and subscribed to the data package in one coutnry....then I move to another country, and want to use the same phone with a a new (local) provider and subscribe for their BB package...would this be a smooth transition process? would my BB messenger act the same since the PIN is the same, meaning my contacts will be able to c me the same with no impact?
any details about this would be appreciated. Thanks.

and why is that? do you have any proof? I just spoke to a friend, he was using his BB in canada, using GSM unlocked, full package, and then moved to saudi arabia, where he switched to a local provided with the service on the same phone...it works, however, has had some problems...he cant always communicate via BBM to people in North America, but it works OK with people in the middle east...
If anyone has a more detailed technical reply, please share.

MD if it's an unlocked phone, and uses another sim and applies for a local data plan, it wouldn't work? i honestly thought that it would!

If the phone is unlocked and you cancel service and your BIS account in the first country, then add the BB data plan, BIS and service in the second, if should be fine.

But you cannot have it registered with two different carriers at the same time.

well yeah, you would have to cancel your service with your other provider before you move to the next country! then you can apply for the bb service in the next country you move to .

Firstly, im a she.
Secondly, it was unclear and I took the assumption you wanted both data plans on the same phone at the same time.
My mistake in the assumption, but clarity would have been nice.

Be very specific with the carrier and make sure that they DELETE the BIS account. Carriers rarely seem to delete the BIS account when cancelling service.

Depends on what you mean by smooth. You'd have to set up BIS each time you switched carriers. I.e. it's not just a matter of swapping SIM's.

yes takeshi, I understand that...by smooth, I meant once I do subscribe with a new carrier, that all functionality will be the same immediately...such as the messenger (BBM contacts, etc..) logically thinking, all should be ok, but sometimes there is fine print that can be missed out, which doesn't seem to be the case here thank God

You have to see what data plans are available in the country you move to. Whether they have unlimited data plans would always be good to check. i'm sure most (correct me if i'm wrong) have unlimited data plans.

Transitions shouldn't be a problem. Your bbm contacts should stay intact as should your contacts/sms etc. 3rd party apps like facebook etc you may have to download again (i may be wrong again). but the rest will be intact.

I've noticed in some cases some apps show up once a subscription to a data package is made.. my sis had the phone and subscribed 1 week later. once she did, a few apps showed up, facebook being one of them.. but thanks to everyone, I'm all clear now

As long as you change your Sin card all will be good, I have done it in Italy and in Mexico with no problem and when I came back to Canada just put back my Sin card and all was the same and thats with out canceling any service.
