Default Enabling USB connection on a 8900

Please Login to Remove!
I just installed the desktop manager. How can I enable the USB connection on the 8900 so that is connected to my laptop? I want to sync my T-Mobile phone to my computer.

Just plug it in.
Apart from Mass Storage mode (which you will usually get a prompt on the phone to enable) there is no "enable usb" setting.

Thank you MidnightDraven.

When the Blackberry Desktop Manager starts it says Disconnected on the top left-hand side.
A small window in the foreground of the BDM states " Before you begin, verify that your current BB device is connected to your computer"

After I connect my BB via USB nothing changes. What can I do so that the BB is seen by the BDM?

FWIW - in the long run I want to tether the phone which I have instructions for
