Default BIS email changes?

Please Login to Remove!

I just got a new phone and was setting up my BIS gmail account. Something seems different. I don't have the "Advanced settings" option anymore on US Cell setup page.

I was also forced to set the "All Mail" label in GMail to sync when I set it up. Got email email saying it wouldn't work otherwise. I did't have that set before. Now I get emails that GMail filters used to prevent.

Omit the password when adding an email account and you'll get the option to use advanced settings.

That's the deal, that's not working. It makes me put a password now.

Is anyone else having this issue. Whether I try from my phone or from UC Cellulars BIS setup site I don't get advanced setting and omitting password no longer works?

The latest changes to BIS changed the workaround. BIS now accesses gmail via IMAP, but the advanced settings aren't available. You can still work around it by giving BIS a bogus user I'd such as "nobody@dummy.com". It will time out and give you the old option to provide the settings by hand. I prefer to access gmail this way. Items deleted from the web interface delete from the BlackBerry more quickly.

Thanks! That was the trick. I didn't think to try with dummy addy.

The new BIS GMail auto setup syncs with All mail rather than the inbox. I don't care for that at all, because I have filters setup to sort into labels and to skip the inbox which also prevents the emails from syncing to the BB.
