Ok here's my issue. When I connect my blackberry to my computer with the usb cable I am able to use the backup and intellisync but when I go to application loader it gets thru the first check then tells me that there is no software for my phone. My blackberry works just fine and does have software on it it's just not being found by the app loader. I have uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times, but just can't figure it out. Which Desktop Software are you using. I found using 4.0 with my 4.1 handheld have me this issue. Once I updated to 4.1 I no longer have this issue. If that doesn't work uninstall DM and re-install it. pink

I noticed the same issue with my new 8700c.

The first app I loaded appeared but from then on nothing shows up as installed.

So that means the third party apps are not being backed up when I do a back up?

I guess I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling desktop manager.

you have to download and install the handheld software from your wireless provider onto your computer. it has nothing to do with the software on the blackberry.

The desktop manager never does show any software on the device when you initially use application loader. If as mentioned by Zro you had upgraded your handheld by downloading the latest OS and installing it or if you have installed programs on your device then it will show software when you use the app loader, but before it shows anything in app loader you must have used it to install something onto your device!

There are two components. The Desktop Manager, which you have installed, and the Handheld Operating System software, which does not come on the CD, and you have to download from your carriers web site. Download the appropriate software from the carrier and execute it. When you go into Application Loader you will not get the message anymore.

In answer to your question, I presume you mean Over the air applications are not being backed up. That is correct.

I have installed serveral apps on my device already. Mini Safe, Verichat, Messenger etc. None of them show as installed in the Application Loader but they are working on my device.

I'm using the 8700c. Doesn't it have the most up to date OS on it already?

I guess I'm a little slow at this but I checked all over the Cingular web site and don't see any links or even mention of where to download "Handheld Operating System software." As I mentioned above doesn't the 8700c have the lastes OS on it already?

I was actually referring to programs which were installed via the PC. But I learned today that no third party programs are backed up via the Back Up option in the Desktop Manager anyway so it really makes no difference.

I guess none of this really matter any way. The only reason I'd need to see installed programs in the applications loader is to delete them via the PC. But since apps can be deleted directly on the device it's not a true need.

There is some third party software that requires yo to have the handheld operating system installed on your PC, and you certainly need it if you want to reload the OS. While the 8700 did come with the latest OS, many other BlackBerrys shipped with earlier OS versions, so upgrading is a part of setup on some of them.

Your right I would have thought this comes with the latest software, now that you mention you have installed applications I also find this odd, I would have only expected to see nothing in app loader if nothing had been installed (or if apps were installed OTA). The only other time I have seen this is when I have used a different PC to the one used to install the apps or if I have physically deleted the files from the loader files folder on my hardrive but left the apps on my device.

So starting the .exe file for the handheld software will give me the option to only install it onto my PC not onto the BB itself since I have the current OS on there anyway I don't need it installed onto the device.

If nothing requires updating (and like you mentioned as you have an 8700 it shouldn't!) then basically what you stated above is correct!

Okay I'm getting somewhere now.

1. I uninstalled the desktop manager.
2. Download what says is version v4.1.0.11 from the BB web site.
3. Installed it.
4. My desktop manager still says v4.1.0.08 (I'll ask about that later.)

Then...........

1. I downloaded and installed the device software for the 8700 onto my PC.
2. Now when I connect I can see all the software in the applications loader.
3. However, I do not see any of the third party apps that I installed there.

Question #1. Should I see third party apps (ones which were installed via the PC not OTA in the app loader.)

Question #2 Do I need v4.1.0.11 and if yes why didn't my install procedure work?
