Default Rogers announces Name Display

Please Login to Remove!

Rogers Wireless will beoffering Name Display to subscribers beginning in January 2006. THis means that names, in addition to numbers, of callers will be displayed just as they are on landline caller ID units.

Does this require a software upgrade for the rim or will it be compatible as is?

Any info would be great. THis would be an awesome feature to have!

This is actually working already. I guess that they are just testing it out or it's slowly making it's way to all Rogers users.

A few days ago I called my buddies house from my BB, and he started laughing because he knew I was calling from my cell and it was displaying my full name on his house phone. I was in complete shock, thinking how the hell did that happen, because I thought it only displayed the number.
Then just 2 days ago I hear that it's happening to other people, too.

no, no... We will beging seeing CALLERS NAMES on our wireless devices.

Rogers started displaying the name of callers recently as well, but that's not what i was referring to.

No software upgrade is necessary. However, a name programmed into your address book will appear as you have programmed it--you will not see the "network" name when receiving calls from this number. For numbers not in your address book, you will see the name as the network presents it.

i noticed the same thing too, but it stopped working a few days later. I think they are testing the system, which i think is great becasue it was about time for a real change. I think in the next 3 years we Caller ID will be on every phone rogers has.

Does anyone know if Bell and other carriers will be making the same shift?

Well i hope all the carriers do, becasue we will like to know who is calling and see it the way we are sed to on the landline. The only way to find out is to call or email and ask.

I did a little research this morning and it seems that this is a GSM thing at this point and bell has no plans of releasing this in the near future as (apparently) CDMA does not support this feature at the present time.

I am sure it will eventually be available on CDMA carriers, but apparently this is nothing new for GSM providers.

I'm looking forward to it. And our blackberries are good to go without a software update.

Wirelessly posted (7290: BlackBerry7290/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

ok now the question is ,

How will each carrier be utilizing this new feature.

Will names be displayed from cell to cell only ?

Will it only be the first letter of the first name and then the last name -- OR vice versa ??

Will king kong have A say in this ?

Regards,
~

there are still some unanswered questions we will just have to wait to find out of what direction they are going to take. Cell to Cell would be a cool feature, but why not use it to the fullest
