| Rogers Subcribers- Red "X" when sending sms Please Login to Remove! I am having serious issues with Rogers and sending SMS from my 7290. I am wondering if it is a global issue with rims sending SMS.. Rogers has been unable to address the problem despite every department intervening..
Are any other rogers customers having problems sending SMS at any point?
Have any Rogers users (or other users) ever seen a red "x" instead of a checkmark when sending SMS messages? If so, can you please ouline frequency, circumstances of error and any error codes received?
THanks in advance. Really appreciate this. Rogers is out of ideas and I am wondering if this is just a problem with blackberries on the network
Shane

| You can check in the options as to whether your SMS is using GSM or GPRS as the preferred sending method and change it. I am going to assume you have reset the handheld as well as have no extra characters in the number you are sending to. I had a user that got an email or something with the phone number they were trying to sms to and it had a space in front of the number so they were trying to send to " 9055551212" and it just wasn't happening, red x and all.

| I have seen the red X before.. Don't know when it does it but it does it quite rarely. it says "packet error, unable to send"
something like that.
speaking of SMS with rogers on a 7290.. I don't know if this is MY device only that does that. but if I send a lot of messages back and forth with someone, the bigger the queue e gets in the message history the longer it takes from the point I actually click the thumbwheelto send.. it takes a good 10 seconds to send it, rather then a few seconds originally. It seems to increase every time a msg gets added into the message history. I clear the queue and it goes fast again? | | Offline

| Nick-- That is exactly the error I get but I get it quite frequently. About 75% percent of the SMS messages I send get that error for no reason.
As far as your speed issue, I find that a few things help that.. Firstly, the new software upgrade is faster than the last when seding. Also, turning off message history helps speed things up. And keep your inbox a little lighter. Keeping the last month of emails in your inbox slows the rim down. Use delete prior. ;)
Since i got the faster, newer software upgrade, things have been moving faster and that hanging issue seems to have resolved.
corey- settings are all perfect. i have even been sent four new replacement blackberries and two sim cards by rogers in an attempt to rectify the problem. Reset hundreds (no kidding) of times, flashed software.. you name it and it has been done.
Still recurring for months now.

| You cannot send SMS on Rogers via GPRS; regardless of what your device setting is, the SMS is sent via GSM (control time slot).
I've been reading plenty of complaints about this issue on Rogers; and not just with Blackberry owners. This appears to be a capacity issue on their network. | | Offline

| Sms Hey man, sorry il rephrase that a little bit lol, i am currently using a 8700g with a fido sim card, which is activated on a monthly plan. I cant use internet email or nothing because Fido dosent have any options available for bb users because they are ghetto. I can only use phone which works fine and sms which dosent. Now here is the problem, whenever i try to sms someone i get a red X showing and it says network out of order, so I have to press resend maybe 3 to 4 times just so that the sms msg gets through, and i also do not receive some sms msg's sometimes which sucks bad considering i mainly use this phone for sms. Now I tried many other solutions on the rim website, calling rogers, readin forums and nothing works, I even played around with the sms settings changing the data encoding to 7bit, 8 bit, or
UCS2, and using GPRS, GSM, or GPRS preffered and still i get a Red x 70% percent of the time, expecially if the msg i type is longer then a sentence?? I guess it could be the serivice because I kno for sure its not the blackberry. If you have any solutions please do tell, and if you are goin to say switch to Rogers dont bother because my friend has the same berry but has rogers and same stuff happens to him.

| I have an 8700r with Rogers and have also been experiencing some issues recently (month or so) with SMS. I'll receive the red X at least once for every 10 SMS messages sent. I'll just Resend the SMS and it goes through fine.
I've called Rogers CS about this issue but they haven't been much help for this matter. I don't mind just resending it to get through, but it would obviously be more convenient if I didn't even have to bother with it (especially because I only see the red X when I check my SMS again, since there's no alert to notify you of a failed delivery). | | Offline

| I have seen the dreaded red x on rare occasions with T-Mobile in New York City. Resending the message has always taken care of it. | | Offline

| wow. this was revived from quite some time ago (almost a year now). Not sure I totaly get what NJBby was tyring to say-- my IM speak?
Anyway, the problem was resolved for me quite some time ago. They finally after weeks of me begging them to, just cancelled and reprovisioned the account. I have since upgraded to the 8700r about 6 months ago and haven't seen this problem on more than a few occassions. it used to be a constant thing though> More SMS' would fail than success..
