hi everyone

i have a question im hoping you lovely people will be able to help me with

i know nothing about blackberry or there phones but have recently been given a handset from a friend who says it will work fine with alittle work done on it, im not even sure what hand set it is but have been told its a 8110 or 8120 as no clear marking on it so if any one could help with that one would be great, ok that was the easy bit.haha

now or the more complex part, on turning it on, there displays a 507 message with a few shapes with a line through them, im told it becuse there is a problem with the memory, but it wouldnt be imposible to correct, if any one could help me with this problem i will be in there dept forever lol as im keep to be apart of the blackberry world.

ps, im in the uk and i have a orange chip i hope to use with it, not sure if thats needed info but its there if it is

507 error means no OS installed. You need desktop manager on your pc


Install that and make sure you download the latest firmware for your phone from RIM

Both of these are downloaded from Blackberry dot com

plug the phone in after you've done this and follow the instructions

I do not know how to install applications,browser on my blackberry 7290 from the internet.what do i need apart from the USB.

there has been a changes since my blog . i have downloaded desktop manager and the latest software for my phone like u your advice, so i must of been heading the right way. but since doing that i now have a new problem. i now have a jvm error 545!!! its driving me abit mad but want to stick at it, do you have any idea what this is? and how to go about resolving it, thank you and anyone who is willing it help.

I would recommend not using DM but the application loader instead. Install the OS you downloaded on your PC , delete the vendor xml file and run application loader.

I'm feelin lazy to go into detail, let me find instructions for you.


1. Download the latest OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Please be sure that you are downloading for the correct device. The 8110 is not the same as the 8120. Additionally, if your device is not branded for Orange, you may need to have it unlocked in order to use an Orange SIM.

Also, for your profile on this site, your carrier is "Orange UK".

i have found out that it is a 8120 and have downloaded the right one but it dont seem to work, it starts to but as it get to task5 its stops at the same bit and loses connection from the phone ive tried clicking the retry a 1000 times and does the same, would you know why this is? thanks again

OK. If you are sure it is an 8120 .......

At the top of the 8100 section, there is a yellow sticky for the 8120 with the latest OS for your specific model and instructions for how to install it. Follow them exactly and be patient. It takes a long time, perhaps an hour.
