I back up my BB every week. I'm getting an error message saying "error backing up BB". I've cleared the cache folders on the device, which in the past would do the fix. But not helping this time. I've rebooted the device, Desktop mngr, and my puter, with no luck.

any thoughts/suggestions would be welcomed.

Run backup again and watch the progress. Can you observe which database it is errorring out on?

Also take a look at the log from within desktop manager for clues.

The first few times today when it happened it was toward the end of the process, but don't know what program caused it at that point. But I ran it again after your post, and it's now stopping with the error message at "browser cache". I just did it another time and got the msg at the point where the process said "folders". Strange stuff

Ok. And you say you cleared the browser cache? How about doing it again, and history and cookies, too. Do another hard reset and wait a good minute before replacing the battery. And try again.

If the backup doesn't work -- see what others say -- but I think if it was me I would clear the databases for the things I could resync (tasks, calendar, notes, contacts), and profiles, do another hard reset, then try backup again, then re-sync. That's what I would do before the next step of a security wipe.

Rim does report some compatibility issues between desktop versions and handheld versions. Try downloading the latest DM.

Thanks, did just that per your suggestion, but no fix. My device won't backup on my office computer either. Same error message.

No one asked, so I will.. What OS are you using?

The latest (as far as I know) at&t OS for the Bold: 4.6.0.304.

I had an issue with the backup reporting an error and stopping or completing with an error.
I replace the OS and downloaded the latest for both and did not have the issue again. I should mention that I did have DM version 4.6 and did not have the issue until I upgraded to the 4.7 version. Further upgrading to DM 5.0 with OS 4.5.0 cleared the issue for me.

Well, it turned out to be the OS. I had installed 4.6.0.519/4.6.0.304 (AT&T Official) and I eventually had this problem. Yesterday I upgraded to 4.6.0.524/4.6.0.307 and this and other problems went away.

Well, the problem has begun once again. About half way through the backup I get an error message saying something about browser cache and half of profiles......
