First of hello, I'm having a problem with my BB.

Basicially, I bought a Blackberry 9000 from a friend and when I insert my '3' Sim I get one of those 3 error messages. I also get a bit of signal for a few seconds, then it goes to SOS. The phone says its unlocked.

Also Im from England if that makes any difference.

Yes, the phone has been unlocked. As every section is ticked as disabled on the sim card screen. Thanks

When you startup the phone, what is the image that appears?
Does it have 3, or vodafone, or t-mobile etc?

Theres no image whatsoever, sometimes theres a little '3' in the top middle of the screen. with a small triangle towards the bottom left of the 3 symbol?

It sounds like its been unbranded using MFI (illegal) software, which can brick the phone.

What does that mean? I'm not to clued up on all of this?

It means theres nothing you can do to get it working.

If i put it on 2g i get reception bars but get a message saying call failed?

So you only get the messages you mentioned when on 3G?
When on 2G, you don't get the messages, but cannot call.
Can you receive a call?

Yeah sorry, I get those messages on 3G, Then when i swtich to 2g i get reception bars and next to them some arrows occasionaly, but cannot call or recieve calls.

some googling gave me 2 options.

Its been unbranded using illegal software, and its screwed.

Its been blacklisted as stolen/lost, and its screwed.
