I've got a user with a BB 8520. I set her up with two accounts, one is Yahoo which works fine, the other is for work. The work account is set up in Outlook as POP3/SMTP, set to leave messages on the server always. I set up this account and the Yahoo account on the BIS web page for her wireless provider.

Now the punchline. If her Outlook is closed, her BB does not get emails from the work account. As soon as she opens it, the emails start coming to her BB.

Does this make sense to anyone at all? I can't think of any reason this would happen.

Any pointers are welcome...

Sounds like you may have installed Desktop Manager with the Redirector option.....

Would reinstalling the Desktop Manager without the Redirector option resolve the issue? I honestly don't remember how I installed the Desktop Manager, but I know I did install it in order to get her contacts on the BB.

Run the installer again. I can't remember how the options are presented. I think you will see two, repair/reconfigure and uninstall. At any rate, you should be able to modify the setup. Worst case, uninstall and then install again.

I will go ahead and do that. I'm just wondering though, why would the fact that the redirector is not running cause the BB to not receive email? I would think that having the account added to BIS would be enough to have emails to always be delivered to the BB. As a matter of fact, I would expect to see duplicate emails on the BB whenever the redirector would be running.

Does any of that make sense?

The computer has to be on and the email client running for redirector to function. That fact is the reason juwaack suspects this as the cause of your problem.

I figured it out. BIS was _never_ working. The redirector was the only thing working. I uninstalled the redirector and reconfigured BIS. Now all is well. The user can send/receive irrepsective of whether or not Outlook is open or closed.
