Default Multiple Calendar Confusion-Newbie

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I am fairly new to BB and have a relatively new Tour. The first one I had had the trackball issue. I changed to this one and loaded my data from the backup I had made.

I synch with 2 computers, 1 at work and 1 at home. We don't have BES, just synching to Outlook on both computers.

After moving into the new machine I had duplicate entries for almost every appointment on my machine. I went through and deleted one of the entries on the BB so there would be only 1. Outlook only showed one. Now when I synched on the home PC all of the appointments that were on that machine were deleted.

In looking at my Tour I see that there are 3 calenders.

Cumbres

1) Default
2) One related to a home email address that I also have set up to get email directly on my tour.
3) The "free" email address that Verizon allowed me to set up.

All of my appointments are still listed in the "default" calender but it won't synch to my home Outlook. I have reviewed the Synch settings, they are set for bidirectional and appear to be correct based on other threads I have read on this topic.

Your help to get my calendar in Outlook to match what is on my tour would be greatly appreciated.

You will have a calendar for each email address. Outlook will only sync with one of them, the one you identify as default.

Open options > advanced options > default services. Make sure the default calendar address is the same as the default messaging address. That is the calendar Outlook will sync with.

Ok, That is part of the puzzle. My default address and messaging are both the same (and were the same before checking). It is set to my personal email address that I do have setup on the BB.

In default services, I have 2 calender names listed. They reference to item 2 and 3 in my original email.

But, most of the calendar items that are on my BB that I want/need in Outlook are listed under "default" which is not an option under each calendar item. These are the items that are missing from Outlook and don't seem to want to move to Outlook. How do I move those items to my email address as listed under default messaging address?

And if I do that will they be available to my Outlook at work?

I'm not sure then why the calendar is not sync'ing. One thing you can try is to delete all CICAL service books and then pull the battery for about 30 seconds.

As far as syncing with the work computer, you can sync with multple computers, no problem. Again, the Outlook in each case at the given time is still only going to sync with the set default calendar.

Guess I will manually enter some and see what happens.

I do appreciate your help. As always I learn a lot from others.

Thanks!

Yes. But my understanding is that it will cause all the calendars to collapse into the default calendar. My thought is it might clear any glitch that is messing with the sync. It's something to try that isn't going to cause any harm but may make it work. Deleting the CICAL service books has worked for others when there seems to be no other problem.

So if I delete the CICAL book, will I lose the calender data that is not associated with a specific email address and listed only as "default" or will it remain.

If it will remain, how do I delete CICAL?

You will not lose data. But, always, the safe thing to do is back up the blackberry first.

Open options > advanced oprtions > service book. Delete all the service books that start with the email address and end CICAL. Afterward, save or close out of options and do a battery pull.

Ok, starting to back it up now. Will let you know in a bit what happens!

All is well with the world now.

I did all that you described above. The items that weren't in Outlook but were in the BB are now in both places. The several different address books are now one.

I presume that the CICAL files are the indexes for the data files?

Thank you very much for your help. You don't know how much you have helped!

Excellent. Glad you got it working.

Don't ask me to explain it. I don't know why it worked. Just know it as one of the things that has worked for others after everything else has been eliminated.

I wonder if part of the problem was my transfering over to BB from a Palm with the Windows OS. Part of the reason that I didn't go back to the windows system was the constant duplicates entering into my calender. I synch'd it with 2 pc's, 1 at home and 1 at work. The work pc's turn over about 1-2 times per year and Windows really struggled with that. I wonder if that played some role.

Either way it is fixed and that is great.

I'm on a Mac using Missing Sync and couldn't for the life of me figure it out. I did as you stated then re-synced & all is fine. Thank you all.
