Default Changing ATT to VZ...Bold to Tour?

Please Login to Remove!

I've finally given up on ATT, and it makes sense for me to move my work phone over to VZ...especially since the network quality is a quantum leap different, and at this point, I can save a few bucks by incorporating into my existing VZ account.

I've currently have a BB Bold; love the phone, the service is the issue. Looking at comparision devices with VZ, looks like the Tour is the match.

Couple things I'm looking for comments on:

1. is my assessment correct? Tour is similar features to Bold?

2. The Tour 2 is rumored to be close. Looks like 2 biggest improvements is wifi (which is nice on the Bold, not a deal breaker on a Tour, but worth waiting short time for..). The optical trackball is intriguing, but nervous about it if that is the first time RIM has done it...thoughts?

3. How easy to move data from Bold to Tour? Is it a simple BB desktop backup and reload, or do I have bigger issues?

Comments/insight/opinions?

1, Have not used a Tour, but I assume the features would be the same as they are in most BBs. The Curve and the Bold are very similar, feature wise, so I expect the same in this case.

2. Optical trackball seems to be working OK. Have not heard or read many gripes about it so far. Personal opinion, I'd wait for the WiFi version.

3. If you sync with Outlook no problem If you use the Switch Device wizard in DM, no problem either.

Just to echo Dubdub's comments... my daughter has the Tour and it is very similar to the Curve 8900 and the Bold 9700 (but without WiFi and trackpad). Solid phone. But I would wait for the 9650 (Tour2).

I have the 9700 (Bold2), and I can tell you the trackpad is a thing of beauty. It works flawlessly, and no place for dust or other gunk to accumulate. The trackpad has been out a while on several phones...

Also, as Dubdub recommeded, the Device Switch wizard in the DM is great for migrating from 'berry to 'berry.

Yea, I'm leaning towards waiting. Knowing my luck, after thinking about this today, some wacky issue will delay the Tour2 until May..

Definitely need to change...as my wife says "the only time I drop calls is talking to you.."...and she, along with rest of family, is on VZ.

The Tour2 is due any time now. If you cannot wait for that, take a look at the Curve 8530. Trackpad and WiFi, but a slightly lesser screen and camera. Neither of those is a big deal IMHO on a cell phone. Best to go to a Verizon store and get a feel for the different models.

I have the Tour. I agree with above in waiting for the 9650

So I'm back comparing, and looking at the option of the Curve now, versus waiting for the Tour2, which, from what I am reading, could be released anytime between tomorrow, and end of 2Q10.

I had 5 minutes in the ATL airport to take a look at the Tour, but no time to spend with a Curve. My baseline, as mentioned, from a size standpoint is the Bold, so not wanting anything larger. The Tour seemed to be similar, size-wise, to the Bold.

The Curve has wifi now, I could care less about the camera, though, I'm reading Tour2 takes a step up from a processing power standpoint.

Anyone out there who has used all 3: Bold, Curve, and Tour? If the Curve and Tour are equal other than the wifi, might not make sense for me to wait for something that doesn't have a real solid release date.

And yea, as soon as I get 5 free minutes on a weekend, going to stop by the local VZ store and spend some time with each device.

I have used all 3. I love the wifi on the Curve. I would wait for Tour 2 which is same size as Bole 2. However, for your needs getting the 8530 is not a bad decision considering your understanding of the camera issue
