tone alerts do not work
 
having a problem on my storm mk1, where I go into the tone/alerts set-up and when I scroll and select a new tone for email notification for instance and hit the 'try' button, I get no sound other than the red light flash and a vibrate test based on the fact that these two options are switched on, but no test of the tone itself. However, during normal operation of the phone (receiving an email using that selected tone) the tone can be heard. Does anyone have the same problem and know how to get the 'try/test' tone sound back? I have checked to ensure the volume is up and all the usual checks, but to no avail. It was working when I first bought the phone.

wow strange behaviour.

The very basic solution to most of the problems is to restart the device by pulling the battery directly from the device while it is ON.

If you have tried this then check what is the level of sound in the field right below the ringtone selection menu.
I have Blackberry 9000 Bold. I have the following options in the menu right below
"""" Mute
Low
Medium
High
Escalating """"

Your Storm device might be having numbers in ascending order in this menu.
Check the sound by selecting a higher number.
Hope this might resolve the issue.

my menu is different on the storm mk1, but tried to see if there were any settings that would change this issue and could not find. Also have tried hard reset, battery remove restart, etc etc. Not sure how to fix this one :(
