Hi, I see several people have asked what to do if the num-lock is stuck on when you are trying to enter an alphanumeric PIN code to unloack the keyboard.

My phone (Telstra Blackberry Bold 9000) has developed this same issue this morning.

I need a suggestion better than pulling the battery, because that does not help this problem. Nor does the suggestion to hold alt and press the left shift.

The phone does not have the problem if restarted without a SIM card, which I guess that means I can backup my data if I have to trash the operating system.

Others have obviously had this problem. What did they do ?

I can find nothing on the RIM support site indicating your issue. The only thought I have is the OS may have been corrupted by an APP you may have added.
Did you add one that you can identify after it started? If not unless the key is physically defective, I would go for an OS replacement, after a backup but be aware the backup restore may reintroduce the issue. If you can avoid the restore for a while it may prove the issue.

I had this issue today and went through numerous forums and couldnt get an answer. When I called my support guys they advised that the blackberry was actually requesting the pin code (i.e. for the SIM) as opposed to "EnterPassword" to access the blackberry. As the sim pin is always numeric the '123' appears in the top right which obviously confuses people into thinking its a number lock issue. Dont know if this is the answer for all cases but hopefully this helps.

Thank you for this, my boss has an ancient Blackberry and was getting this message, he thought it was stuck on num lock but nevertheless tried to put his password in twice and managed to get it down to 1 attempt remaining before it would need a PUK unlock.

I told him "It's asking for a 4 digit number, not a password" and a lightbulb went off in his head, he tapped in his PIN and voila!
