Post Teaching tool

I know the BB can be used as a teaching tool in a classroom. Example: are there any valid Mars space probe links that can be shown to children? Saved documents in your docs to go in Word, Excel or PP can be used in a classroom?

If your a teacher you should be focused anything but a blackberry in the classroom.
Friends of mine who are teachers make kids turn off all cell phones during class.

I am a school admin and work with a few universities. There may be some positive experiences through a blackbery when flash becomes available. I think we are 10 yrs away from widespread use. TSAC answer is appropriate for 2010.

This discussion is hopefully not for students in the classroom but how teachers can use technology for best practices and lessons learned. I agree that most schools do not allow cell phones in the classrooms based ondiverted attention. Teachers who will provide a PP presentation than is stored on their BB or a picture of a camera shot from the Mars probe is the current acceptable practice in the classroom. Just looking at good technology practive.

Thank you for your response.

I was also a HS Administrator for four years and also on a school board'd technology team for many years. I followed the schools' practice of not allowing students to "use their cell phones" in the classroom. This did not prohibit connecting a cell phone to a projector and provide visual and audio teaching. I realize technology is a tool and it's how you use it.

What do other teachers think?

I called a few of my teacher friends and asked their opinion. While they do understand the need to introduce and use technology in the classroom, they would be concerned with the slip to allowing cell phone use by teachers and restricting students and the next problem of cheating via text messages.
One was a teacher in the university here and the others are HS teachers. The college teacher had less issue with the cell technology use than the HS teachers did. I suppose that is as it should be.

At this point you're still better off with a laptop and projector, or a whiteboard setup. BlackBerrys are a bad choice for a teaching tool. Unless of course the class is about BlackBerrys!
