I have a BIS account configured for use with a hosted Microsoft Exchange account - works well apart from one annoyance.

I recently started getting plagued by repeated RIM messages in my email. These look like this:

Subject: RIM_bca28a80-e9c0-11d1-87fe-00600811c6a2

This message is used to carry data between the BlackBerry handheld and an associated server. Please do not delete, move or respond to this message - it will be processed by the server.

I have so far wiped all my service books and resent them from BIS, however this annoyance continues.... any ideas how to stop them, or why i am getting them?

Sounds like you chose the Desktop Redirector install of Desktop Manager.
I would uninstall and reinstall the DM with Personal mail option.
