Default simple questions from beginner in BB

Please Login to Remove!

hello everybody,,

i am new to BB and i have been reading during the last 4 days in BBforum here, else i have some small notes i hope u can do me a favor by answeing them for a bigginer

i am using latest 9700 locked by the carrier is Etisalat UAE

they told me that they are ready to unlock it if i want, so :
1- what i will get if i unlock it?
2- how to use blackberry messenger which is in the instant messaging folder in home ? i mean who i can add and how to use it ?
3- I asked them about BES they said my company should prchase the blackberyy server and i my company doesn't have one, so is it really related to my company BES, and what is the hell doing this one ? i mean i have internet package is unlimited from them, why BES is used ?

4-the ring tone is only palying once "count" and don't know how to make it more !!?? strange :( some solutions in the forums also didn't work for me.

5- how the device knows if its in the holster or not, is that really realiable?

6- the messages sms view comes like conversation, so is there a way to see them as my old windows mobile device? i mean like to see only the received messages when i click on sms and mms and then folder for "sent" so i can see my sent messages, instead of grouping them like this ?

7- in the browser of the internet, can i use it for 2 diferent sites same time? like minimizing the broswer and opening another site to view both of them together!!??

8- how i can use only number mood? e.g. i am writing many number at once in memopad , don't wanna press alt number alt number always!?

9-i need powerful dictionary english - arabic if possible?? is it available ?

10 - one last thing, i see some tiny light leaking from between the keys in the keyboard !! similar to background lighting has some shinning comes from between the keyboard keys and looks like scratches between the keys !??? is that normal !!??

thats it for now, and i am exploring too in the forums

thank you for your patience and your grate work guys

cheers

1. the ability to use a different carriers sim card in it.

2. you need a blackberry data plan to use blackberry messenger. you add people who have blackberries, by using their PIN number. Its like IM'ing just blackberry to blackberry.

3. BES is used for companies, so you can get their email, calendar, contacts etc synced. If your company doesnt have one, it doesnt matter.

4. Playing once before going to voicemail? Playing once and its a long tone? Please expland this.

5. There is a magnet in the holster, so the device goes to sleep once encountering the magnet. Thats how it knows.

6. Nope. People wanted "threaded sms" i.e. conversation, so they added it. Theres no way to go back.

7. nope.

8. if i remember its something like alt and left shift, that will keep "numlock" on.

9. not sure

10. relatively.

11. you mean other than the standard "bar" indicator when a full bar is about 20% and half a bar is 10%? not sure. there may be a theme that can change it.

you are really BlackBerry Genius dear MidnightDraven
thanx 905er too

about the ring tune, i don't use voice mail, its just showes me the the ring tune in the profile but - i used always - and tried in holster - and out of holster, there is no option to count the rings ! it rings only once and then keeps vibration 10 as i alrady chosed, any idea ? btw i called the carrier and they said it has nothing to do with us ! its options from the mobile, but can't customize that at all , i tried all the device options and settings, profiles... onlye plays the ring tune once, then continue showing the caller in silence mode or vibration if chosed to act custom vibration option !

tried also option a guy in the forum offered , by choosing from media > ring tunes > select the ring being used > repeat, there is no repeat option all over !!

any idea ?

Call them again. Number of rings is basically your ring length (the time it takes before a call goes to voicemail which is controlled by your carrier) divided by the length of your ringtone. Typically ring length has a maximum of 30 seconds. E.g. if your ringtone is 30 seconds or longer you'll only hear it once.
