Do you have a Blackberry data plan?

The BB data plan is what allows you to use BlackBerry Messenger on your device (among other things).

If you don't have it, you can't use BBMessenger. You'll need to call your carrier and have them add it.

Did you invite them? Have they accepted the invite?

You need a Blackberry Data plan not a cell phone data plan.
