Welcome to the group.

See What do I need a Data Plan for? - BlackBerryFAQ .

Bottom line: The blackberry data plan is data service specific for the blackberry. It may be an add on to your voice service plan, or bundled. You must have it to use blackberry data applications like blackberry messenger, PIN messaging, pushed email, and so forth. See the link for more details.

ok lets start with a welcome.

i hope you are aware a blackberry device is pretty much an email device/ phone . the blackberry data plan is really made to work with a blackberry device it allows for email to be pushed to your device . Pushed means that they are pretty much forced directly to your device the min the person sends an email. so dont have to wait 10 mins for an email. there are two type of blackberry data plans

1. BIS-BLACKBERRY INTERNET SERVICE
2. BES-BLACKBERRY ENTERPRISE SERVICE.

both are made to do pretty much the same job but BES will also update your contacts and appointments . work with an exchange server.. i am sure some people will be able to tell you more, but this is just an intro. if you have any more questions you need to be a little more detailed on what your asking .

good luck
