Creating Folders and Filing Email I am a newbie to this forum, and I tried to do a search on the topic and read the threads that came up but they didn't answer my problem. If there are threads that I missed please direct me and don't yell at me. Thanks. Facts first. I have a BB 8900(curve 2) from T-Mobile. I also have a data plan but I don't have BES. I have several email folders, one from Verizon (my main personal) and several from gmail. Each email folder is separate. I also like to separate my sms/mms from my email so I have separated theme in my general email options. Here is my problem - I generally delete my emails from my BB after I read them, but there are times I would like to save some of the emails in folders that I create. I would also like to create separate saved folders (personal vs. hotel, airline confirmation, etc.) When I save a message (be it an sms/pin/email) they go into ONE save folder. I have created folders in the folder option but I can't figure out how to get my saved messages into them. I see there is a file option, but again I can't figure out what that does or where it goes. What does file do? Is there a way to save/file a message into the folder of my choosing? Is there an app I can buy that will do that? Is there a way for a pin message to go to a separate folder and not the general message folder? Again I'm sorry if these questions have been asked (please just direct me to the proper thread), I know how tiring it can be to repeat answers on a forum. Thanks, Abebaby |
BIS doesn't support folders. |
If you just want to save email on your pc, even after deleting it on your BB it should be in your Deleted Items folder in Outlook, as long as you don't have the BB set to delete mail from the server after downloading or to delete from handheld and server. I'm a Mac user, but when I get mail in my MobileMe account and delete it from my BB it's still in the inbox of my Mail.app program on my Mac. I can save it to any folder I want. Additionally, Hotmail emails are handled the same way. Deleting an email off my BB gets me the prompt to delete from handheld or delete from server. As long as I just choose handheld the email remains in my inbox, marked as read, and can be filed away in a folder within Hotmail's web interface. Although you cannot file to folders over BIS, you can mark an email as Saved on your BB and a copy will remain in a hidden Saved folder on the BB. To access it you would open Messages, hit the Menu key, and select View Saved Messages. You can delete an email from your inbox after saving it in this manner and the BB will retain that email in Saved Messages. Just be sure you have your BB set to save messages "Forever" and not to delete them after 30, 60, or 90 days. Messages > Options > General Options > Save Messages: Forever. |
Thanks for the feedback but what I really want to do is save only certain files on my bb - like hotel or airline or bolt confirmations to a separate folder, for easy access. Is there a third party app that creates folders and lets you save messages? I'd buy it in a heartbeat. |
You might want to look into a hosted BES solution like ExchangeMyMail or Link2Exchange. Both are listed in our sponsor are of the forum. I don't know of any third-party solutions for BIS to give you folders. I use the Saved Items folder for exactly the kind of things you're looking to save. Hotel confirms, flight info, emails with info I want to reference, etc. I've just begun using WorldMate Live for my travel arrangements. It's expensive, but it's the class of the travel app genre. |
If you are just looking to save travel related email, look at TRIPIT.com. You can send your reservations details there and they will be posted to your "site". |

I still wish there was a 3rd party app to save certain emails from different accounts. I'm in the middle of a job search and use separate gmail accounts and I really want to save some returns in a separate folder for later retrieval. Thanks, abe |
