Whenever I take a picture I keep getting the message 'File system error' and I'm unable to save any pictures.

The folder is full.you need to delete some photos. Also if using a added storage card, it must be formated in the BB.

some further ideas,
the photos are extra fine and require more storage
the media card is set to read only
the additional memory is corrupt
the OS is corrupt.

If you dont have anything one the BB that you really cannot replace, try a backup and reload the OS on the handheld.
If after reloading the OS and you try some more photos.
If it happens again ( without the media card ) the memory on the BB may be defective and if the phone is working and the only thing is limited storage then maybe you can live with that. If everything fails and you must have everything at 100% then you may have to replace the BB. Dont forget to experiment with the media card if the BB seems to work until you insert the media card.
