Default Missing "shortcut" keys

Per my other post I was having problems with my volume using 4.0 so I reinstalled 3.8. I dropped my device and had to get a warranty exchange & decided to use 4.0. I ugraded and now don't have the shortcuts (i.e., underlined keys - type m for email, etc.). Anyone know a solution?

Go into the Phone application; click the wheel and select Options and then (I think) general options. You want to find the option for "Dial From Home Screen" and set it to no. That will activate the shortcuts. Except on the 7100t (sob) which does not have the shortcuts.
