Default Windows XP won't boot after installing Blackberry Desktop Manager

Please Login to Remove!

Several attempts at installing various versions of the Desktop Manager software, including the latest version from Blackberry.com, always causes the reboot at end of installation to NOT complete if my laptop is in the docking station. It makes no sense to me, but when I click Yes to reboot, XP shuts down and the boot process starts. If my laptop is docked, the boot just hangs before the XP splash screen. I have to undock, shutdown the laptop, and restart it. After it restarts, and I dock it, the machine response is deathly slow, unusably slow. I unisntall the desktop software, and reboot (with it docked), and everything works fine.

This is a Dell Latitude E6400 running Windows XP with all of the updates to the OS applied.

The laptop is so slow after docking with the Blackberry software that I can't use it. It has to be uninstalled in order for the machine to be usable when it is docked.

I am running this same version of of Blackberry Desktop Manager on another machine that is identical in hardware and OS, and this problem does not occur.

Install in Safe Mode maybe? I had to install Theme Studio in safe mode.

A Dock or Docking Station is a piece of equipment that you sit your laptop on which as well as charging it also gives the use of extra hardware resources that are built into the Dock such as extra disc drives, usb ports, card readers etc.

I don't know if this will help the OP but I have always had a problem with Roxio Media Manager and Windows XP.If I install Roxio as part of Desktop Manager on my laptop that runs XP it will hang for up to several minutes before booting. You could try installing DM using "custom" install and opting not to install Roxio and see if that cures your problem.

Thanks woodyuk.

But that's how I did the install anyway. I've always had the same problem with Roxio Media Manager when installing with DM. So it's never been part of this particular problem.
I haven't tried installing in Safe Mode though. I will try that next.

I gave up on Roxio MM and went with DoubleTwist and couldn't be happier. No problems. It's free. Google it exactly as I spelled it. Much, much better than Media Manager.
