My other half brought us both back Storm 9550's, unlocked, Verizon branded from a trip at Christmas. We weren't sure they would work, but set up was no problem (we're both O2 UK) and the phones work well. Sent service books from O2 / Blackberry and they work no problem.

BUT when a call comes in on mine, it shows the caller display, but always shows "Russia" under the callers name, as if the phone thinks all the calls originate in Russia! Thing is, the one my other half is using (same model, same network) is fine and just shows the caller ID.

Not a big deal obviously as all other functions and indeed calls themselves are fine. Have checked all settings between the phones to make sure nothing different on mine.

Any ideas - seems like a setting I'm missing just don't know what it is? I know the 9550 isn't a UK model, but then why does only one of the phones do this?

Check your Call Log > Options > Smart Dialing settings... anything odd in there?

Set yours correctly in that slot.

Hi & thanks for the tip. I've been in to Smart Dialling again and its set to UK (+44) which is correct, the number of digits in National Number was wrong, so I corrected it, but still getting the same issue (Russia).

Anything else I can try? Anywhere else the country or country code is likely to be lurking unchanged?

Try this in Manage Connections:
Network Selection, change that setting to GSM or UMTS only, not Global.

Really odd. What would happen if you swapped SIMS between your two devices and see how the calls come in yours, or the Russia swaps to the other device.

Really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Just tried that and it was set to Global, but changing to GSM/UMTS still shows incoming calls with "Russia". Will do a sim swap later and see what happens then. Any other ideas - keep them coming.....

Should have bought 9520's as they are GSM only, so no odd CDMA behaviour.

You sure the person calling you isn't currently in russia?

It was the only option at the time, we knew there might be issues and were relieved when the 9550's just worked.

And no, none of the people calling me are in Russia (even comes up when I call it using the phone at home).

Not tried it yet, will do as soon as the other half gets home.

Right, did the SIM swap and my phone still showed Russia but the other one was fine, so it must be the device itself.

I went into the CDMA menu and there are so many settings in there, including some that still show vzw.com (the phone is branded Verizon) so I'm guessing it's something there, but googling doesn't find anything appropriate to change the settings to.

Appreciate the ideas so far, if anyone has any more let me know otherwise I will just live with it for now. Such a cracking phone otherwise.......

I have exactly the same problems - a 9550 on GSM O2 - UK network.

My phone is brilliant except for the slightly annoying wrong country coming up, I have had Russia and Eygpt!

I have found since deleting a Verizon app known as City ID (functions limited to the US, I believe) that the country identifier is no longer coming up and I hope that is the end of it.
