Think I found the trick after all the fiddering. I notice the Address Group works only with those addresses having email address. One way to workaround those without email address is to enter any alphabet as dummy email address. It all works!

Stuff, I have a 7100t, but I wouldn't imagine it to be that different as far as the software concerning the address book. You should be able to scroll all the way down to the bottom and see categories: select it and then it should pull you to a list of categories. You can select one that is already listed and you can also add a new one from that screen.
