Default anoying symbol

Hi, can anyone help me, my new blackberry has asymbol on the display that I cant get rid of, it is a round circle with an arrow going from top right of circle to bottom left of circle and has the red new message starat the top of the arrow. I cant find out what it is for, can anyone help to let me know what it is.
