Default help with using BB as modem

Please Login to Remove!

i have a BB Curve with Altell (now verizon)

I can use my BB as a modem on my laptop with Altell's quick connect mobile. I downloaded it to my pc so i can use it there as well. But during the installation i get prompted to plug the BB device into the computer to complete installation. The "next" button is greyed out until you plug in the BB and the computer reconizes it and installs it. However, when i plug in my BB it just brings up a window that show it as a mass storage device and doesnt reconize the BB as a modem.

I think part of the problem is, my computer has already reconized my bb from when i first installed desk top manager a long time ago. I dont know how to make it discover it over again.

Any help would be great!!

Not sure if it matters or not but my phone is with verizon now but was altell. I still have the altell quick connect mobile and verizon still treats us as we are not verizon customers. For instance, my wifes BB pearl needed replacing via the warrenty, when she recieved the new phone in the mail, everything about it is altell from the name on the phone to the home screen.

Does this make a difference for anything? Does anyone have a direct link to download the newest copy of Desktop Manager?

I was just checking to make sure everything still worked fine with my Verizon Tour and connected fine. I couldn't do anything because the following page came up and didn't want to leave.

All the carriers are tightening up the loopholes that let users tether for free. Looks like Verizon has it locked down tight. Sprint is the same way. Nothing for it but to pay for a tethering add-on or get a wireless AirCard-type device for your pc. The days of wheezing free modem use are gone.

I have cable internet. I have never used tethering other than just seeing if stuff works.
