Default Help opening e-mail attachments

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry if I'm missing something, but I'm new to the forum and can't find a related thread.
I have 7520 (Nextel), and can't open jpeg attachments. I have no trouble with other types of files (word, etc), but when I place my cursor on a jpeg file, the "open attachment" option doesn't appear when press the trackwheel and scroll through my options. The jpegs are listed like:
application: abc.jpeg (423K)
If I get a word or excel file, I have the "open attachment" options.
Anybody got a clue what the problem is?
Thanks.

Are you on BES, I am not and I have the same identical configuration on the same phone you do, I am on Verizon, and I have absolutely no problems at all opening any type of attachments, not just jpgs. Going out on a limb here but I wonder if you have a corrupted OS. If you havent backed up your data, I would back it up, do a wipe, reinstall the OS and do a restore and then try it. I dont mean to cause you any extra work but I do not see any difference between yours and mine.

If you're on BES it has to be 4.0 or greater to open image attachments.

BES has nothing to do with the issue. BIS users with handheld version 4.0+ can view jpg attachments. My recommendation is delete your service books and resend them to the device.

Hi everyone,

I'm glad to have chanced upon this thread. I have the same problem as the original poster. I have the following:

Blackberry 7290 on BES
Cingular Service

The options screen says:
Blackberry 7290
v3.8.0.139 (Platform 1.8.0.99)
Crytographic Kernal v3.8.0.20

In the Applications tab all of the versions say 3.8.

I have a nice color image viewer with the sample pictures but I never saw the point of it: can't view attachments, no file/open to view pictures that didn't come with it.

Anyway I can view Word and Excel docs nicely, but not simple things like .txt or .jpg or .gif.

Any ideas? The tech support guy at my *large* company has no suggestions. Also, the help file on the device says that image attachments can be viewed with the standard click wheel, get attachment method (!) I'm stumped.

Thanks for your assistance,
Dave

You need to update your BB OS. I'm surprised your BES admin hasn't advised this, unless they have identified a problem with the later versions. I would ask them again about this. You can also find more info iabout the latest OS versions in the Sticky at the top if the RIM S/W forum.

Hope this helps.

Default Thanks Helpsig

Thanks Helpsig,

Ok. We need to run version 4 of the handheld software to make these features work. My company does not allow me to update the software on my PC or BB. We have a software group that tests and packages custom installers for all applications. This is intended to increase performance and security of our data. We're running Win2k as well. I will wait patiently...

Thanks,
Dave

Default same problem

I have the same problem on my 7520. I have the most current BB OS i think.

v4.1.0.273
kernel v3.7.3.7(we thought the new OS would be the difference and it wasnt; we even just installed the enterprise activation stuff this past weekend, my BB is fully updated, and still wont open jpegs...)

And i can open any attachments other than jpegs. I have my firms tech guys on it, but they arent sure just yet what the issues are.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks;

Neal
