| Just got a new blackberry, minor questions Please Login to Remove! Got the 8530... aries
1) My contract/plan with telus is a blackberry "social plan". I have unlimited Facebook, windows live messenger, blackberry messenger, etc...
But NO email.
seeing as how I have a PIN for my blackberry, and able to use BBMessenger and PIN, doesnt this mean i am in a "blackberry data plan"?
My question is; Can I access my email (check messages) using Wi-Fi? Of course i'll have to manually sync when im in a wifi network, but thats better than not being able to check my email whatsoever.
Here is the plan: BlackBerry® SocialÂx|Âx Plans for BlackBerryÂx|Âx PlansÂx|Âx TELUS Mobility
2) How do I disable Groups in Windows Live Messenger? (and have it only show the lists: Online, Offline)

| Are you actually on Telus? Your profile says Fido.
1. No, all BlackBerry devices have PINs, so this doesn't mean you have a full BlackBerry plan. You have a "feature enabler"
If your plan doesn't allow e-mail access, then no, you can't do it on WiFi, unless you use a third-party application.
2. No idea. Check through the help file.

| thanks for the reply.
Lol i am actually on Telus, my mistake. I'll change it now
1. Ahh, i see. So , i have no BES or whatever that is called, right?
Would there be a third-party email application that when i manually sync my email messages, i could get it to show up in "Messages" ? | | Offline

I'm not aware of any that would allow emails to show in messages, but LogicMail is free and displays them in a messages style list. | | Offline

| LogicMail doesnt work too well with hotmail :(
I actually tried searching for some more email apps, but nothing. Can you guys recommend me some more?
Also... does the actual BB email not work with wi-fi? I cant even get it to pass the email setup AFTER i added my email; it won't show an email icon on my homepage. Does this mean Telus has blocked that function?
Thanks Draven.
3) When I create a new folder, and select an Icon (one of BB's defaults) for it, the Icon is not properly sized. Its bigger than it should be. I tried restarting my device, etc, but it still is larger than the other icons and pixelated in my homepage. | | Offline

| If you really want to enjoy all of the benefits for the Blackberry (and it sounds like you do), just get the Blackberry plan.
Then, you dont have to try and create work-arounds to make it work like it will with that plan

| Indeed. Call Telus Mobility and tell them you'd like a regular BIS data plan. (Forget about BES unless your employer has one setup for corporate email & you wish that; they might as well pay for it and most likely they'll want a corporate own BB not your personal on their BES server).
This way on proper BIS plan - which I think Telus has starting at $45/mth give you 10 personal email accounts (yahoo/hotmail or live/gmail/etc) and IM (BBM, YIM/AIM/MSN/etc) and third party apps working flawlessly.
cheers and welcome to BBForums and the world of BlackBerry.

| Thanks for all your suggestions/help.
Ahh, unfortunately I've already signed a contract to this rate plan (Blackberry social: includes social networking facebook, instant messengers, etc).
I guess im going to have to live without push email.
Also, does anyone know the answer to my third question? I cant seem to fix it... everytime i make a folder and set an icon the Icon becomes bigger... | | Offline

Anyways, I managed to fix the above problem by updating to the latest version.
1 more question;
How can i get my blackberry to idle/sleep/fade black after like 5 seconds? it seems to do it in 15 seconds, which is too long for me. | | Offline

| The BIS option through Telus is only 10 dollars more than what you pay now, why can you not change your plan? Rogers lets you change your plan as often as you want, for free.
Besides, they are getting more money from you, so why wouldn't they let you? | | Offline

| Hmm, interesting. I guess im not too familiar with this rate plans as the past few years i've only had simple cellphone contracts.
Thanks for the heads up, i just may consider it!
Just curious though... does 500 MB of data do for a month? Im always skeptical about an amount and unlimited always reinsures me I dont have to worry. | | Offline

| Rogers.com has a neat data calculator tool. You can select the device and scroll up how much you plan to do with each thing, ie email, email with attatchments, downloads, videos, etc. It gives you a rough idea of how much data you are using.
I love it I haven't seen too many BlackBerry users go over 500 mb, unless they are using many data intensive apps. | | Offline
