Default Multiples PIN on my BB8820

Please Login to Remove!

Hi There,

I got a strage problem with my BB8820. I bought it from ebay and was told by the seller that its a brand new one. Everything was working fine until i went for enterprise activation with Vodafone India.

My device is unable to register to the network (even though i am getting EDGE beside the signal strength) and i must say that vodafone exec's were not that helpful.

Being a techie, i started browsing through forums and came across BB forums wherein it was mentioned that every BB has a unique PIN. I checked the status on my mobile and checked the PIN with the one mentioned on the phone body. To my surprsie both were different.

When i go to vodafone mobile email activation site and try to register then i get an error that the PIN (the one which i get on the status page) and IMEI number combination is invalid.

When i try to register using the PIN on phone body and IMEI then it accepts it but gives an error that the the phone is not yet registered to the network.

I presume i have been given a refurbished phone and i have already raise a case with ebay but not sure what ebay can do because i have not got a response back from the seller yet.

I was wondering if the experts on the forum can help me sort this out.
Is there any way i can change the PIN getting displayed on phone status page to the one on the phone body (because that seems to be the correct PIN to me)?

Thanks,
AK

There is no legal way to change the PIN of your device. If you choose to use the illegal methods available, your device will be rendered useless by RIM.

My advice is to go to a Vodafone shop and purchase a new device directly. I highly recommend the 9700 or 9520.

Thanks for your advice.

The reason i chose BB8820 is that it comes without a camera and my office security policy does not allow me to use a camera phone.

BB8820 was not available with Vodafone and the only place i could get it was from ebay.

Feel cheated now. Have raised a case with ebay but not sure if they can help.

I have an unused blackberry 7100v which has got a valid pin and imei. I can try and swap the pin and imei. I know its possible but don't know how.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Although it's rare, I have heard of RIM mis-labeling the devices on the stickers under the battery. It's also possible that some parts were changed out and the part with the sticker is from another unit. Go to Options > Status and check the PIN listed there. I'd use that when trying to register the device.

As said above by dc, there is no legal way to change the IMEI and PIN on the device. We do not discuss illegal activities, so please don't ask again.
