Exclamation BlackBerry 9500 software not Windows 7 x64 compatible

Please Login to Remove!

Dear All,

I have seen a few posts reporting the same problem but I aslo saw they were just "closed" and left without an answer. I am using Windows 7 x64 bit on my HP HDX 18 1200EO notebook with the most recent version of Desktop Manager 5.0.1.37.

The problem is that in the Device Manager under Modems, the Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link shows a yellow exclamation mark next to it. The hardware ID of this problematic entry is:

BTHENUM\{00001103-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb}_LOCALMFG&000f

I have spent weeks trying to solve this and I always got answers saying that the BlackBerry (Desktop Manager) drivers are not fully Windows 7 x64 compatible and that is causing this problem. As a result of this, I cannot use my BB Storm in tethering mode, not even with a USB cable. The IP modem icon just doesn't show. I have talked to Vodadone UK, HP customer service and the questions always goes back to doubting whether BB drivers are good enough.

It is a realy shame as Win7 is quickly becoming very popular so I am sure I am not the only one facing this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Dundy

You might try checking to see if the PC's BIOS is current. RIM reports some PC's BIOS does not show connected devices. This will cause modem issues.
They do not seem to have issues with 64bit software except with some programs and those can usually be updated

Good Luck

Thanks for the idea. However, I have the most recent version of my BIOS installed that's available via official HP webiste - it came out Dec, 2009.

So unfortunately I don't think this is the problem.

Can you please tell me if you're using Windows 7 x64?

Unfortunately I think the fact that Windows 7 is still relatively new means you're out of luck until somebody puts out updated drivers.

I can confirm what sac said about the bios. My ThinkPad was very flakey with the connection to my BB until I updated the bios. After going from the original 5-year old bios to the newest version the connection was easy and solid. I'd bought my X31 used and only used it for phone stuff, being something of a Maclot (Mac zealot). But it was so slow I finally couldn't stand it. My problem: I was only running 256 MB of RAM! After spending $60 and about 5 minutes I was running the max 2 GB. D'oh!

Well, yes, I am hoping that either RIM / BlackBerry or HP comes out with the proper Windows 7 x64 drivers to assure smooth connection between my notebook and Windows 7.

All I can do is wait until we receive official confirmation from either side that they're at least working on resolving this problem.

I think this problem is device specific. I have two WIndows 7 64bit machines at home and two at work, and all connect to Blackberry devices just fine. They are all different models (1 is a laptop).
I would continue to check the manufacturer for updates BIOS, hopefully that will fix it.

Can you please tell me if you can use the BB as a modem? This is my main problem. My BB connects fine as well, I can synchronize, update, backup, etc. My main problem is that I cannot get BB 9500 to work as a modem for my Win7 x64 notebook.

Thanks for your reply.

Verizon will not allow the Blackberry Storm2 to be used unless you pay for the extra tethering plan (I think its $25 a month) or you need to use Tether software.

Hi,

I am using Vodafone Hungary and they confirmed it can be used as a modem, it is allowed. Although I must note that Tether is not working either, their customer service tried to help me by answering a few emails but I haven't heard from them them recently.
