Red face 'social networking' GARBAGE! (Verizon)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All!

Well, got a second replacement of my Storm today, this after barely a month of use... but that's another story.

I would like to ask if anyone knows how to defeat the "push" advertising that tries to load social networking apps on my phone. Stuff like yahoo messenger, youtube, facebook, etc, etc.

Nobody at the Verizon store seems to know how to do it. One rep told me it's from RIM and "it just comes with the phone"; obviously claiming that it's 'not a Verizon thing'. WhaTevEr!

I can go to options>advanced options>service book and delete stuff there, but it just comes right back again. These are not "installed apps" so there is apparently nothing Desktop Manager can do about it as far as I can tell. I actually tried to install one just so I could delete it- and the #@($)#! ad came right back again!

I want this junk 100% gone- permanently! I own this phone and consider it intrusive advertising for garbage I have no interest in.

Ideas anyone? HEEEELP!

Thanks,
CT

They are icons pushed from the carrier, VZW, AT&T or whom ever, just hide them, they are not installed apps, they don't take up any room. If you delete them as you have seen they will just pop back up when you re-boot.

All you can do is hide them... as zerog said, they're pushed out by your carrier, and they just keep coming back. You can't "beat" them, so hide 'em and forget 'em.

Ah, the marvels of modern electronics. Too many choices for some things and no choices at all for others....

Thanks for the feedback guys. I created a new folder, named it Junk, and put all those icons in it.

"Hiding" just dims icons. IMO that's not really hiding since stuff is still clearly visible. It doesn't even inactivate them really, as you can demonstrate for yourself by "hiding" your email or phone icon.

Hiding only dims when you have show all turned on.

On the screen where they are dimmed, hit the blackberry button and then uncheck show all
